Annual report 2024

Introduction

OpenGit was legally founded on the 16th of December, 2024.

Since we were founded at the end of the year, we’ll be using the annual report over 2024 as a sort of trial run as our first, full fiscal year will end on December 31st, 2025. Feedback about the report is always welcome.

Overview of events

  • Q1 - The idea of OpenGit crystalized more and more, with initial work going towards the basics of the foundation.
  • Q2 - High level designs and sketches being made around infrastructure and software to be used.
  • Q3 - Pitches to several people about the ideas, directly leading to the initial board members joining the effort. We were granted our first sponsorship.
  • Q4 - Development of the basic site, operational wiki, more detailed work on finances & infra as well as the legal creation & registration of the foundation.

Highlighted Donors & Sponsors

  1. The OpenGit Foundation’s founder sponsored all costs related to hosting, domain names, etc. for 2024.

  2. Yubico sponsored the foundation by accepting the OpenGit foundation to its “Secure It Forward” program & providing a number of Yubikeys for the foundation to use in securing its operations.

Budget for 2025

A provisional budget is listed here and will be updated in Q1 of 2025 where needed. These are the known and estimated values for 2025 at this time. Values can potentially change during the year, for example when more donations are made than expected.

2) Hosting costs are as of yet unknown and at least partially covered by the founder.

Plans for 2025

High-level plans for 2025 include, but are not limited to:

  • Create a five year (2025-2030) policy plan as well as the annual plan for 2025;
  • Attend FOSDEM 2025;
  • Connect with Forgejo & Codeberg organizations in more detail;
  • Attract more sponsorships and donations;
  • Design, test and setup production level services;
  • Go live;
